I think its less of a “disadvantage those who cant pay their way out” and more of a “repetitive travel is tiring and can cause you to pay less attention/be less alert, which can cause you harm” as shown by the fact that having a conversation loses you enough focus to have a weak monster sneak up on you and hit you with a debuff (see; the snake incident)
