It wouldn't work, he needs direct physical contact not indirect which would make a sword more of a hindrance, because as soon as he gets close enough for the skill it will be in his way. In addition the sword would take up his free hand which could be better used to place more marks.

For those confused as to why MC doesn't have an [Inherent] class skill, it is because he used a skill book to artificially awaken as only those who naturally awaken can get one.
