it is because only limited people can be a magic user which is also limited knowledge and some also hides the fact that they innovated other spells like him, just imagine if he tells to the whole world or kingdom that you can use external mana then he will be used by government so they thought (of course kids or children cant create or innovate as they have limited knowledge even though he/she can be genius)

you're underestimating priest so much, you read too much fantasy based novels where priest only support from sidelines but priest in medieval era (fantasy world) they can be inquisitors or something like that they are trained to defend themselves bro they are not only follower of god nor just healing in sidelines they have skills related to light and probably stronger than a knight
