It might be true that he's immortal and so dying won't be something he has to worry about but that doesn't necessarily mean that time and age don't matter to him. If suppose that he takes too long to get strong because this third path is slow and a God who is already at the zenith of his power learns about him, things could go bad. The power of immortality could even become a curse if that God decides to beat the **** out of him and turn him into a slave or something like that.
