In other series - where the protagonist becomes all-powerful by the end - it is much easier to judge their actions as they have the capability to change things. By this I mean stopping suffering for eternity. So if they choose not to, it's very easy to see how limited their view of the world is. Something like that cannot be called truly transcending, you're just a powerful mortal, not truly escaping the Endless Reincarnation. Sadly for Sung Jinwoo this is not the case, as his power over reality is not anywhere near omnipotence, and so the only reasonable metric to judge whether he ascended or stayed as a puppet based on the current known information is whether he contributed to the continuation of the Endless Reincarnation or not, which he did, by making another generation. There could be more to this, but based on what I've seen from the work, Sung Jinwoo seems to be just another 'stronger' human, getting powerful but ultimately failing to transcend being a mortal.

Wasn't meant as that type of ascending, the way I meant it was ascending from a mortal lifeform to a higher one, in this specific context meaning trascending being an animal (having kids) and becoming something more.

João did not watch the ships for long. Only twenty minutes, and then the convoy turned inland. Constantly stopping, they finally reached the city of Maputo. The people were exhausted by the long journey and constant stops, but apart from water they could eat nothing. They didn't have time. Everyone stopped the hunger as best they could. The happiest people had something sweet with them.
