i think the purpose of the prior life is so the reader can relate to the character more. well the character would have a modern day mindset. because of globalism, people with internet access all around the world are having experiences that are similar but the main audience is someone in mainland china so they would be even more similar. The characters born in a cultivation world wouldnt know about technology or circuits or programming etc and these things do come up. like if you become a formation master or artifact master. well thats what i think the purpose is.
