(not sure about the paying system,) but what I thought was that rarer creatures will be really expensive, and hard to tame in the wild, hence if she wants something unique later on it'd be either an adventure getting said creature, and "taming" it, or buying and doing say a side quest. There's tons of options and stuff, hard to put into words and make it work. Bear with me lol, I'll try to make something interesting.
