Asset is in debate concerning guns.. A gun would attract more zombies once used so I would use a gun initially for protection from human scum. Now if you are in a secure place than having a gun for eliminating zombies makes sense if you don't have to worry as much about creating a zombie horde that would surround you.

In an Emergency of any kind including a zombie apocalypse you would be better sending a text. You can send a short message "I am OK, how are you? Sending a text could take up a few kilobytes while a call could require hundreds of Megabytes. So if everyone just texts your odds of getting a message to and from you loves ones is greater.

Maybe Erica, but not Hazel she probably thought she had no chance as a farmers daughter. Hazel is probably happy she can help her family. Besides they have not said yet if polygamy is a bad thing in their society. I think Men should be allowed to have a harem as long as they have the money needed for running a big family and enough time to have meaningful together time with both wives and children. Having a harem of a 1000 women maybe doable financially for high earning men, but it would be very difficult to have the meaningful together time for the wives and all the children.
