Nah, humans obviously try to control and get rid of things dangerous to the species, it has nothing to do with pride. In the wizarding world, they literally have people taking care of dragons, and there's nothing like a massive hunt towards some species just because they don't like them. Even if there was, you could find similarities with the animal world where species are constantly going against each other, most disappearences are obviously not caused by humans lol...
