Basically he made something for Magic Circuits to work with, as the Foundation is the program for them to execute magecraft with. Before that only those connected to Gods could perform magic, as the Circuits were pretty much only able to transfer information and small things like that. You can see that Magic Circuits already existed like with Circe, who is from the same time as Icarus, as she has them in FGO.

To become a heroc spirit he would have to die, yes. As for a contract with Alaya, that is completely unnecessary. That only applies to those who become Counter Guardians like Archer EMIYA, and they are technically not true Heroic Spirits. Real Heroic Spirits are people whose existence are elevated to the Throne of Heroes after death due to their famed deeds in life. Think of a system of worship and belief that empowers or creating gods but on a lesser extent for humans to elevate and become Heroic Spirits.

Basically ‘Good’ or ‘Utopia’ timelines are pretty much stagnant and have no need to further improve, thus are deemed pointless and pruned. There are other reasons for a timeline being pruned as well, such as worlds where the inhabitants are unable to influence the future. Basically, to summarize it very heavily, the ‘Universe’ only has so much energy to go around, and having an infinite amount of parallel worlds is impossible to sustain. As a solution, the World will destroy any timelines that cannot guarantee another 100 years of existence or progression to save energy. As a consequence, a timeline headed for utopia could be considered a dead end as it will no longer sprout any possible parallel worlds. It will never go anywhere beyond that point. So, just like a timeline headed for destruction, in the eyes of the World’s sheer pragmatic and energy conservative ways, they are one in the same: Useless.

…What? First of all, Zeus is never threatened by Ares to end the Greek Pantheon, I don’t know why some people bring this up—but it is simply wrong. At most that story is one told nowadays as a way to give a finality to the Greek Pantheon which never had a proper end. As the Ancient Greek religion never had a ’Ragnarok’ it simply stopped being worshipped. But even then that story has many problems, such as Ares doing a personality flip out of nowhere and even conflicting with previously given knowledge on Greek Myth. Ares is little more than a joke in Greek Mythology. This is probably a story that is popular in your local area, but I had never even heard of it before someone here mentioned it, and even then it took me sometime to even find it online. And finally, the strength you see him have in the Lostbelt during Fate/GO is his chain summoned Machine God Form, not his degraded Divine Spirit form that you see here. It literally states that a living Heracles was pretty much an equal match to Ares after completing his 9th Labor. He isn’t what he used to be after Sefar killed him. Nor is he Mars of the Roman Pantheon, who he has yet to become. Mars would indeed be much stronger, because as like Zeus now, he would be one of the three Chief Gods in it alongside Jupiter and Quirinus. As for Artemis… what are you even talking about? Have you read her FGO version, I’ll even link a picture here for her interactions and motives. She does not fall in love with others in this story, but she does like to talk about love stories. Orion has not even been born yet. She is stated to not have interest in any men other than him, but is more than willing to talk about romance. But, while it garners her interest, it doesn’t garner her care. She still has no regard for human life even with her ‘happy-go-lucky personality.’ …And I didn’t even make her shy, where did that come from? Remember for anything in this story, Fate Lore > Mythology.
