I think it has to do with the complex nature of Chinese characters and lining the numbers up to do multiplication and division. This is not the first story I’ve read where step 1 was learn Arabic numerals— specifically for ease of calculation.
Sesame sauce made FROM peanuts? Wouldn’t that be peanut sauce? Or is it sesame and peanuts?
