I made this comment two years after being fully raised around authoritative(I think that’s the word?) parents. I never got that treatment but I watched all my cousins get beat and “disciplined” for nothing and got used to it. I agree the belt should only be used for the extreme cases or else it will be abused. If your child attacked someone or shoplifted or any extreme behavior maybe the belt would be appropriate. However, if your child forgot your morning coffee you don’t abuse them. My aunt would pull my cousin by her hair and do so much and it would be seen as normal or funny to the rest of the family. The problem is when physical discipline is your only way of discipline. That’s called being a bad parent. Thankfully my parents would never lay a hand on me or my siblings but I think that’s all what some cultures are taught. Since they were never taught any alternative parenting methods they just resort to that one. My parents didn’t really have a style since they ignored(thankfully) the only they were taught. If I did something bad it was either just screaming or being diss appointed. There wasn’t any positive reinforcement or anything healthy. A parenting style gives the parent some control and something to fall back o when they don’t know what to do. Sorry for the dump. If you don’t mind me asking, what is your experience with parenting or punishement? where do you draw the line between discipline and abuse?

Author, you need to read a manga called “Festival of Champions”. It is a Pokémon manga fanfic that is honestly better than the original. just finished it and literally made me cry. The battles are so exciting and the backstory is amazing. You did not do Gary justice compared to that manga. just google “Mangadex festival of champions” and you get all the chapters. Sorry if this sounds like a plug but it’s something you have to experience. The first few chapters are slow so make it past there and it’s amazing
