introducing characters like this is unnatural I'm sure you know this now, but I still find it worth mentioning. Instead of outright telling these things, you could use plot devices to show their dreams, circumstances, and physical traits.

mildly ironic considering the absence of color is technically black... you see, colors are just light that's reflected. if red light is reflected off of an object, we call it red. and white is the reflection of all colors...
