The water molecules had made way for the oxygen outside to pass through and allow Luke to breathe. This meant that as long as there were air bubbles with oxygen underwater, Luke would be able to breathe without issues. This, however, would not have been made possible without Luke receiving his complete mastery of his abilities. the bodyguard mentioned should be Darry I guess? but with Viserys dead and Daenerys gone, he left.
