Right after Madara used Great Fire Annihilation in the 4th shinobi war, he killed countless people with a bunch of giant fire balls. Everyone seems to forget about that.

It was never specifically metioned that the Hashirama cells also prevented blindness in the MS from overuse. At least it was never mentioned in the anime.
