    Criminal? He was conferred the title of Consul-for-life through a plebiscite. Excluding his return to France in 1815 (which was wildly popular with the French people anyway) he did not really break any laws. Mass-murderer? The majority of his military campaigns were in defence of France and the French people, excluding his time in Egypt, and so were legitimate. The atrocities in Spain were carried out on his brother's and other senior marshals' orders. Making war legitimately does not count as mass-murder. Tyrant? You could argue that he was by far the most enlightened and liberal of his fellow heads-of-state at the time. His preservation of key aspects of the French Revolution and codification of a legal system which is used in much of Europe to this day in some shape or form were hardly the actions of a tyrant. Read some history books mate.
