It's rather that different cultures calculate pregnancy differently. In fact, "typical" Western pregnancies are calculated using the last known period as the start of the pregnancy. This is ridiculous if you know anything about the typical human conception process, seeing as it takes about two weeks to ovulate post-period and conception cannot occur without an egg. Anyways, Western pregnancies are "actually" 9 1/2 months long, once you calculate the extra two weeks that counting from the last period gives you. Chinese pregnancies are considered 10 months long.
