The 'original feeling' is bad character writing for the sake of fan service. If you could make something read better when translating, then isn't that the whole point? Gu Ziyi changed from an intelligent, patient, and humble young man into a lecherous tool simply to justify him having multiple relationships with women that he isn't even interested in. They don't really enhance or challenge the story or his character, respectively, in any meaningful way. If you can make simple edits of interactions that ultimately lead to nothing, then why not?
