yeah it's a little joke, there's always some strange thing like that in anime where the main character does something and for some reason a bunch of scientists know about it

well, let's just say he waited 1 more year to take the exam with them. but having people with 1 more year in your class happens sometimes

i'll make it so he will plan a team for his opponents before the fight. But i actually haven't really thought about him being able to change his team while fighting... i suppose that it would use a pc like interface and it would take at least a couple of seconds to make the change
