most... sure, but it's not a mandatory thing. There are plenty of hobbyists who smelt metals. While precious metals are far more difficult to get, they can be retrieved from electrical components and smelted, I do it all the time. I get about 1 ounce worth every few months and smelt it into a bar. It's not even polished so it looks pretty janky, but an ounce is an ounce. I smelt gold, silver, copper, aluminum, and brass.
