Gradual increase, by Making he recover a more cunning mind like Kill Magic beings and Take his knowedge of rituals like the children of the forest to creating a New ritual similar to the one Who made him to evolve to a higher level.

About the foreshadowing with Cable calling Ethan third wife Aunt Di, and now in DC verse ,it is clear ,Diana the wonder woman ,was his third wife aka Aunt Di.
