Because using a gun is idiotic. Any halfway competent wizard is going to have magic that can easily combat any kind of projectile. As soon as they see that you have a gun they would immediately be on guard against it. So, unless you're talking about shooting only weak and incompetent wizards or using only a sniper rifle, the likelihood of a gun being at all useful in a match-up between similarly competent wizards is next to nonexistent.
Maybe some learning about fencing? I always thought the blades were cool. Imagine having a wand in one hand and a sword, spear or dagger in the other during a fight... that's style. Besides, it's quite likely that if I ran out of wand or magic, using weapons to defend and attack would be far more practical than using my bare hands; - ChaosSlimeGod11mthCommentedCh 2212 Boundary Modulators!
