Also, although it seems too much of an exaggeration, the ground shook with force, like an earthquake that shook the entire forest. The temperature in the air seemed to rise and the atmosphere became extremely heavy. The floor below him is supported by beams, to distribute weight, below the beams is the ceiling of the lower floor. This creates a space where wires, plumbing, ect can go. As the space isn't completely filled sound can still travel through floors. Using "thicker floors" is one way of dampening the sound. Tho I think I was being sarcastic when I made that comment
