Your math is completely wrong and you’re over complicating the issue. It’s incredibly easy to look up what a 200% increase or what a 500% increase means but I guess you wanted to look smart instead. An increase of 100% means you’re doubling the original amount, an increase of 200% means you’re tripling, and an increase of 500% means you’re sextupling. Compound multiplication has nothing to do with this, albeit the author’s math is still very wrong

Nope that’s wrong, an increase of 100% would be double, because you’re increasing the original amount (5) by 100% of the original amount (5) so it’d be ten. An increase of 200% would be triple because you’re increasing the original amount (5) by 200% of the original amount, and since you know 100% of 5 is 5, then 200% of 5 is 10, so you’d be increasing 5 by 200% of it’s value which means you’d end up with 15. A rule of thumb is whenever you see an increase of whatever percentage let’s say 700% for example, to know what the end number is you just have to divide that number by 100 and then add 1. By this logic (700 / 100) + 1 = 8 So an increase of 700% means you’d multiplying the original number by 8.
