if you read the novel, you'd notice Parker's character development ! As time goes by and he ages, he becomes more and more mature and reliable. In the end, he became my second favorite male lead (after Winston who's basically best boi/best man 😁) We gotta remember that he was 17-18 years old when he first met Bai Qingqing, his brain and thought process was still a teenager's. Later, he became thoughtful, attentive and romantic, he's also the house-husband of the family, he's the best at taking care of BQQ's baby daughter, he prepares romantic outings for BQQ to have fun and enjoy herself (like when he built a cabin on a beautiful flower-covered tree... that chapter was so cute and made me start loving him, and cemented his place as my 2nd favorite male lead. If you read the later chapters of the novel, you'd notice that Curtis is actually more jealous and possessive than Parker, he also has a manipulative side, like when he thought about how it would be great if he had found BQQ earlier, as a child, and groomed her into becoming dependant of him, etc.)

in Chinese, "to play" can also mean "having fun" or "having a great time". Like, some people would say that they are going "to play" when they visit a museum, or go on a trip in another country. 玩 can mean to play as in kids playing, or going outside to have fun and enjoying your time doing something you like
