He is able to leave her body to do ghost things and he does on multiple occasions. He just has a certain range that he has to stay in. This binding is less of a restriction on this "immortal" mc but a motivation for him that gives an objective that moves the plot forward. The mc is not invincible as he can and does get hurt and it is shown on many occasions that he can very much be killed.

but dying before becoming untethered(saving the sister) would cause PERMANENT damage to his soul and lacking the physical stats to grow in the BEGINNING would not allow for growth. of course though he should only be investing like 1 point each into his phys stats and dumping the rest into int and spirit
