Or instead of sharp, use whatever descriptive word you feel is appropriate, like blunt, quaking, whatever you feel would be best.
"Suddenly, a sudden pain blossomed". I feel it would be better to say "Suddenly, a sharp pain blossomed". I feel saying the word sudden twice is a bit redundant, to me at least.
