I think something the people seem to forget is that while he was a mighty general in his last life, he also relied a lot on Silane and his cyborg enhancements (which for the moment he no longer has). He now needs to redevelop those skills without the use of all his fancy tech. It would be the same as going from a fully automated factory to one where you now have to do everything manually. You would still have the knowledge of how everything works, but you have become so used to no having to worry about the little things that they get missed by you.

Death wasn't a problem but revival wasn't possible if one died due to unstable magic core. The magic cores had a direct connection with the phylacteries and thus if one died during awakening, the phylacteries break at the same time. Resurrection was possible and Lilith, a Legendary creature was more than capable but it would compromise on the future potential. Reincarnation was possible and to have memories intact too but it again compromised on future potential. Lith will not be Lilith's flesh and blood, his race may be different too and thus it was a very stupid idea. All in all the stabilization was a very important process and should not be underestimated at all. Well, of course, it can be taken lightly if you are not a descendant of a Legendary. - silvertest1yrCommented

If I'm understanding it right, he was blind and now isn't due to what his dad gave him. He keeps the blindfold to hide his eyes because they are very distinctive, and since he spent most of his life blind he can still "see" like he used to because it has become habit at this point.
Li Lian and Xun Wei had both gotten used to it, but Chun Hua on the other hand was shocked, to say the least. She knew he used to be blind, but she never seen him with his blindfolds on before; she could hardly recognize him.
