If I were in your shoes I would choose to make it an original. But since you already had a planned story, I would highly recommend thinking about the plot, characters and world building. Really revise if you do need to alter the plan and don't rush. Because in my personal opinion quality of the story comes foremost, not the received payment from the readers. Because if it is good quality readers will find it and religiously follow it. So far you are doing great in terms of quality. It is hard to make a reader really admire/love/hate a character, for me so far there is not enough to attach feelings or emotions to the characters to make them feel "alive". They are likeable and I can see the potential for them to feel like they are "alive" but that is going to depend on how the storyline and you, author shape them. Bare in mind this is just my opinion/review/suggestions about the novel so far. Good luck with your exams/work. Bless you with a clear mind when making your choice. We readers will be waiting and accepting of whatever you choose.
