I thought the same way as well, since you know it'd be way too overpowered and not in line with Light's developed personality in my book. Plus, light isn't bored with life anymore so why would he become Kira? He'd probably give up the death note the moment he thinks it'll harm his family.

Don't forget Light is a really talented investigator (Plus with Advanced Tech), and the MC is more concerned about light joining the dark side. However, such speculation made Hikaru (The not very smart one) think that avoiding the death note was the best way to do that. He does regret this lack of foresight later

I was thinking the same thing well writing it; however, I couldn't have him lead it off track even if he knew it would put himself in the spotlight. He isn't guilty this time so why should he hide anything lol
