imo monster pet evolution was a really good story until u reach the end it was so rushed and gave the feeling like "and everyone lived happily ever after" and left a lot that hinted about the author wanting to make some type of part 2 SPOILER AHEAD: (for example about his other self) but the author didn't do it so it left a bad taste in my mouth

it's just that she is acting like a b1tch to him even tho he literally does everything he could including risking and sacrificing his life for her to have a good life his ways may be a bit overprotective but imagine his point of view, their parents left them alone and he is the older one so he took all the responsibility for her on his shoulders even tho he was still young so obviously he he would be overprotective for her
