The sword belonged to Goujian, is a famous sword forged (allegedly) by Ou Yezi - the legendary sword forger. In my novel, Ou Yezi was the teacher of the immortals Ying and Xuanye. The Sword of Goujian was discovered in 1965 in Hubei, China. Cast in tin bronze, it is renowned for its unusual sharpness and resistance to tarnishing rarely seen in artifacts so old - especially it was soaked in water when it was discovered. The sword can be seen in Hubei Provincial Museum and it's regarded as one of the precious Chinese cultural relics forbidden to be exhibited abroad. There's no historical record mentioned clearly who forged the sword, and who inscribed the writing on the sword. Whoever that person was, his/her work is immortalized in this precious sword.

I had to make up immortals characters since they are the witnesses of history. They're the ones who recorded the history, and including witnessing the evil people receiving karma from their evil deeds. When you read the second book - there are some characters who are immortalized, but not immortals.

"We are the chosen immortal people!" the girl said calmly while playing her guqin again. "We're born into this world without parents. Many of us are adopted when we're babies. We live normal lives, until one day, we probably severely wounded or accidentally died. And then we're healed or resurrected. Then we just realized that we are not a normal human!"

it was common at that time that peasants had no name. Sometimes they're just called as First Son, Second Daughter, Third Wife, etc.

Yue Maiden - was the name Zixi gave to her. She was a smart, lovely beautiful young woman. Zixi taught her how to play the flute, and the girl taught Zixi how to hunt and catch fish in the river.

She had no name. She's from the Yue State. Therefore he just called her Yue Nv ( A Female of Yue or Yue Maiden)

Euphemism to say that they enjoy their conjugal bliss. LOL.

Yes. They lived deep inside the forest far away from any village.

Zixi then used his sword to cut bamboo and made a flute from it. When he was not helping the girl hunt their food, he would play the flute, and the girl would sit next to him, listening to his flute play. When he played his flute, the girl would sit quietly and just admiring him.

Actually, I deliberately blended two real historical figures : the barbarian Yue (whose name unrecorded) -the one who sang a love poem to express her love to Lord Ejun, and another woman also from Yue ( therefore her name was recorded as Yue Maiden) the first swordsman whose swordsman theory was recorded.

The girl examined the soldiers. One of the soldiers wore a new uniform. She happily took off the clothes from the soldier's dead body and wore it. She also examined those soldiers' shoes and chose the best one to wear on her feet. The girl laughed happily. She offered another pair of shoes to Zixi, who was confused and staring at her.

yes, karma. If you read further of the story, it's clearly implied that all of the evil deeds got the karma; while the good deeds, got the reward.

King Jia'ao was his nephew, and he was King Jia'ao's prime minister. He rebelled and killed the young king to usurp his throne. Before he killed that young king, King Ling killed his two sons in front of the king. He would have never imagined that the same fate was happening to him. His younger brothers killed his sons, and his younger brother took his throne.

In that era, usually, they would kill all the male family members, while taking the females as slaves or concubines.

"Your Majesty, please, take a rest first!" Mi Huan and Mi Yan said. The two of them were King Ling's cousins. No one in this world knew him better than the two men. They could tell that King Ling was shocked and didn't know what to do.

Lord Ejun was around 23 years old when he had to flee during the first rebellion.

Lord Ejun didn't know exactly what happened to his wife and children. But he could imagine what would have happened to them. His son would inevitably have been slaughtered, and his daughter would be enslaved. While his wife, if she's willing to be obedient, she would become the new king's woman. But if she was not compliant, either she would be killed, or she would be sold as a slave in a brothel. Such a cruel reality was the life of a fallen royal family.

Yes. And I have a commitment not to alter any history :) The end result of the story/ conclusion will be the same as the historical record. I know it sometimes tragic and not a happy ending...but again I can't alter history :D

Yet, they were chased and ambushed by Prince Qiji's soldiers. They were outnumbered. From around thirty loyal men who followed Lord Ejun to escape, only Lord Ejun and Lang Tan, who managed to escape Ying City safe and sound.

hi! Thanks for reading. Yes, I know this is complicated. The historical record from this era is written in ancient Chinese with only a few lines. It's a big challenge to create historical fiction with limited historical resources. Therefore I have to give a lot of notes to ease the readers.
