You did well making the MC sentimental instead of the cold and opportunistic MCs that are more common. I would suggest to tone down the sentimentality a bit though, it kinda makes him look a bit whiny but that's just my opinion...

Let's be real here, not all chinese fanfiction are bad, it's the poor translation and some frivolous new chinese authors that only write whatever they want with no regards to the other aspects that make a good story.
