Besides if a crown prince/emperor/king is capable & powerful he wouldn't need to marry many women just so he could accumulate political power, he also wouldn't be afraid of his wife's maternal family (even if they have military or political power). p.s I've read the raw/mtl of this novel so I know for sure that the Zhao family here are actually powerless that they couldn't help prince Huai that's why Crown prince isn't afraid of them.
