what? This is a completely normal reaction. He killed 30 rabbits there, everyone one of them a life. His way of dealing with this shows he isn’t a heartless moron. Unlike many other mc’s in these kind of novels who totally embrace killing, death and suffering from the get go (what is, especially at that age, extremely unrealistic) he feels compassion and is frustrated for what they made him do. It’s a way more interesting and understandable approach to that topic than just mindless killing is. He has also the potential to change during the story, maturing in a way that this is his new way of life. Everybody does whats needs to be done in order to survive, but that does not mean he should forget that in the end every death by his hand is a erased life of sb. other. So dont come with this “mc is a pussy because he shows compassion and sympathy”. Because thats a way more unmature kind of view
