First off somehow he's found himself traveling across the pond and ending up somewhere in a Muggle America. The last thing he knew he was exploring a hidden cave he had found deep within the Forbidden Forest when he saw some sort of object stuck halfway inside a large rock. Now don't him wrong his family was never poor but they weren't rich either and that object looked decently expensive. First of all there is no need for name calling. Second I just want to say my point still stands he could have just used his portal twice plus he has already found another way of transport he has magic other wizards don’t it’s hard for me to believe he couldn’t figure it out by himself. Disregarding all of that he already has the nessesary knowledge at least that’s what I assumed when I read this as he seemed more concerned with splintching than it completely not working. He just hasn’t learned to actually do it. It’s whatever but I kind of just see this as the author adding a road block

The distance between his home and Charing Cross Road, where the entrance to Diagon Alley was located, was over 1 Kilometer long.
