They were the Federation of Light, the Crimson Dynasty, and the Arcane Church. Basically, the original Ash wants to live, so he’d use the key. This is the ”id”, the primitive part of our psyche which follows our instincts and desires. The player who sees this as just a scenario in a game will want to clear it, which means not dying. So they’ll use the key. This is the ”ego”, the rational part of our psyche that evaluates reality and finds a balance between the id and super-ego. Only the player who understands that they are playing the role of Ash can make decisions Ash wouldn’t normally make. That is, dropping the key down the pipe, the morally correct decision. This is the super-ego, the moral conscience of the psyche. These three concepts make up Freud’s structural model of the psyche.

A strong foundation is important but he needs money. Let me reiterate some of what’s been said these past few chapters. He needs to make sure to keep up with the times and needs an estimated 2 billion to keep his equipment up-to-date. He also needs a mech he can sell. As we’ve seen from the pilots that turned down his offers, price isn’t really an issue as long as the mech is worth it. So a good design will net him larger profits. And to help garner interest in his designs, he needs something that stands out, something that looks good on paper. X-Factor is something that sets him apart from others, but it doesn’t show up on the mech’s spec sheet. He’s chosen to focus on mediumweight armor that strikes a balance between speed and defense.
