Also taking in the world of Damachi, the dungeon is huge with room for dragons and other huge creatures. He will have more then enough room. Heck many in this world use Greatswords and polearms to fight.

Longsword is actually better at that then the katana. Its is balanced towards the handle making it have better mobility and the point is superior at thrusting. It is only a little longer than a katana. Check out some videos on YouTube if your interested, its fascinating.
