First of all, that doesn't make any sense, remember how rasengan was the "peak of external chakra manipulation". And that was a ball... He is somehow forming chess pieces out of chakra and moving them, meaning that he has reached beyond the peak in a few days? Unless he meant that they created it with genjutsu, in which case it would make more sense.
