Either way, it's contradictory if you think on him... he has been 10 months not showing his full capabilities for a reason... but now, in order to not have to wait 1 or 2 years and become a saint, he is going to throw it all and blow his facade... Really, sometimes he is a complete idiot, and generally when he shouldn't, when it doesn't really matter he is super inteligent and hides things... 1 or 2 times... ok... but it has been happening all the way from the begining one time and another, almost 20 years making the same kind of huge mistakes that usually end with him half-dead... he should have learn... but... when there is a need to a plot... everything is valid, isn't it?
