Quite predictably, most of them are digging, even the Immortals. Ah, it seems that Leeroy has learned of the soul devouring nature of the termites and is hoping, along with her sisters, that her soul will be consumed before her Phoenix Fire organ can kick in, circumventing her rebirth and finally achieving a glorious death in battle. Actually, I know for a fact that the sixth stratum is the land of pink elephants, flamingos, and actual living Hello Kitties. It is the most horrific realm in the entire dungeon. Why do you think the Ancients never rise up? They cannot handle the sixth!

It starts slowly at first, a bare whisper, a scrape, the faint tik-tak of claws on compacted ground, but it quickly swells as that same sound is repeated hundreds, then thousands of times. The repeated clacking builds into a crescendo until it almost becomes a roar, echoing through the tunnels like an oncoming tidal wave. I'd have to give Leeroy a big pat on the carapace when I saw her again. She must have pulled out all the stops to win that fight. Which is fine by me, I need a little time to recover. Becoming Anthony's flying circus not once but twice in a day was quite an unexpected event and I'm in no rush to repeat the experience. Around me the ants are beginning to move on from their unending assault on the air above their heads to conquering the city more generally.
