The best option would have been bulling back. Getting better location and more suplies, becaus even in sucsesful suprise atack, you will use up ure resources, leaving you open for a counter atack from the enemy

logicaly thinking he has no chance of winning, and in this scenario he would be corect that it would slow him downs, as he is only 13 yearold boy. For adult depending on the tipe of armore used it would be unoticable to slight inconvinience, if the armor is fitted for the wearer. This is just my humble opinion

you could alweys use a shorter spear and using a spear is easier as its mostly lighter and thx to its reach is safer, also you dont have to use fancy skills to kill, just poke the target with the sharp end
