What direction is it from Astor's pack? What was the scenery they drove through? Maybe I missed it, but even then I think this journey should be a bit more memorable considering it's the first time Astor is leaving his pack.

Really? Cuz the book is mostly written from MC's perspective, his point of view. Because of that we can see what he's feeling at any given moment. And he's just been beaten bloody by a group of boys while an old woman watched. We're not seeing what the old woman was feeling, we're seeing what MC is feeling. Take it from someone who has gone through a lighter version of bullying, he's in no mood to empathize and rationalize her not helping him. To him, she's just the latest in a long series of adults who have stood by as he was routinely abused, regardless of whether she could actually do anything or not. Also, from what I've seen up ahead, things are gradually getting worse. To the point where I wouldn't mind a Zenin Clan style extermination at some point, tbh 😒
