If you take modern perspective into account then yes changshou could be considered a groomer. He was around 100 years old when ling’e came around when she was around 12 or so. Another point of note is that while Changshou did guide her, it was never from a point of a father. That role could be given to their master. He had an elder brother type role. But I’m sure with his persona of avoiding karma he may have kept a distance and never fully assumed that role. It may have been ling’e who fell in love on her own and added to the relationship.
