I agree that peasants would have to exist in one form or another. They do today if you tilt your head and sqint a little (blue collar vs white collar workers). but slaves are unnecessary for a functioning midevel society.

hydrophobic needles lol. There are underwater guns but they mostly shoot darts. A regular guns bullet will not travel more than 6ft forward in water. Thinking more about it though...maybe a hydrophobic syringe dart could be effective?
