Doesn‘t matter, why should the angle of the shield change his blocking/ parrying speed? But as this novel has some of the worst fighting scenes this is makes it simply consistent. He can‘t do this weird speed-exercise for more than 3 hours without breaking down, but can fight for his life consecutively for a longer time, he uses a a skill that cost him 25% of his Mana at the beginning of a fight and only just scratches his opponent, has no survival training but camps out in the most dangerous wilds, ... Well at least the setting, monsters and world are interesting 🤷🏼‍♂️

Better question is how he was able to burn it, since it was mentioned before that the flames were totaly ineffective ...
