Great Old Ones/Outer Gods is a Lovercraftian cosmic horror reccurent theme there are a lot of other such works although Gehrman is undoubtedly a reference to Bloodborne . it's a genre named after author H P Lovecraft who started it all/made it so big with his work "Catll of Cthulhu" and some other books afterwards other authors contributed further to the genre, there is a whole Pantheon of old ones Azathoth,Yog Sototh etc...
