The Myceloid god seems to be trying to make a god to fight against for fun, or a deeply hidden traitor that is trying to turn max into the god he needs/(possibly used) to be

Basically, you give someone an outrageous option (which isn't your actual goal) so your actual idea sounds feasible and rational in comparison

When you tell someone to ask how a similar organization was basically destroyed overnight and everyone thinks you're taking the piss. I reckon we'll see the death of an elder or 2 within 10 chapters purely due to stupidity.

I do love the duality for the gods in this. on one hand, they are technically the masters of their domain. On the other they are a stagnant being for the most part with no physical presence. The fact that some gods can be outright mocked by people that aren't even demigods is strange.
