In chapter 28 he says "his next EXP gains will be going to increasing his grace retention" or something like that. I think thats why so many people have posted confused on this. It isnt explicitly said that he cant increase it past the bounds of Dull rank. might be a good idea to go back and update that chapter so its more clear. (not hating, im really enjoying the story so far)
