In politics, we call this passing the hot potato. I did not expect this to happen, I thought there would be an even three way split before Ves cast the deciding vote. This achieve the same, but in a believable format, well played. However, Ves will be sitting on a lot of hot potatoes, effectively making him a king-maker.
I was in a situation like this before, between choosing someone who is old and powerful or someone young and smart. I chose the young. My reasoning is at the time, even if I risk everything, I figured I would rather stick with someone I would have to live longer with rather than someone who would have died sooner than my time. That old and powerful person got a stroke eventually, and become feeble minded. It’s a sad day indeed when the young have to fight and die in an old people’s war.
The polymath unity plan reminds me of Unity from the show Rick and Morty. Which is an intergalactic entity resembling the flood from halo, just without the physical mutation, capable of absorbing sentient being into a hive mind. From there, just like Unity, maybe Mr.S is someone like Rick and the polymath actually has a crush or live infatuation with the concept of Mr. S or Rick, which is infallibility. This would made Ves someone like Morty, an idiot protected by plot armor, whose sufferings are enjoyed by higher extra dimensional beings which is the readers.
Polymath: “Where is Mr. S?” Ves: “That’s hot, are you single?” Polymath: “Do you have a death wish?” Ves: “Well, yes actually. Hard not to, when death is my sister. Did anyone read my autobiography books?” Polymath: “Suddenly this explains a lot of your life choices.”
This is the concept of capsuleer from Eve Online MMORPG, of which I am a veteran player. The only difference is the interface is not in the form of a capsule, but an iron man equivalent, and in this case the mech pilot is not an immortal as in the mmorpg eve online.
